Pre-Med Timeline

Freshman Year

• Begin taking pre-requisites – work hard and try to get straight As!
• Adjust to college – focus on your classes!
• Meet with the HPAO advisors
• Identify opportunities in 1) Research; 2) Clinical activities; 3) Community Service

Sophomore Year

• Complete pre-requisites – keep shooting for a high GPA
• Continue participating in various activities
• Develop relationships with professors

Junior Year

• Summer before: Start preparing for the MCAT
• Fall: Write the first draft of your personal statement
• Ideally, a January MCAT gives you time to retake in April if necessary, and also gives you time to start on the application
• March: Complete the Pre-Health Packet
• April: Submit the Pre-Health Packet (Priority Deadline is 4/1)
• May: Do well on Finals, start filling out the AMCAS Primary application
• June:
  • Week 1: Submit Primaries
  • Week 4: AMCAS electronically transmits Primaries to Medical Schools
• July
  • Begin receiving Secondaries. Complete Secondaries within 2 weeks of receiving them.

Senior Year

• Prepare for interviews
